DESCRIPTION:This class is designed for shooters who want to challenge their abilities at long ranges.  This 6-8 hour class will cover all the necessary skills for shooting out to 600 yards.\nThis class is broken up into two days:\n\nDay 1: Classroom portion at GAT Guns\nDay 2: Range portion is held at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club, Waterman, IL\n\nEach student will receive a copy of the material in the classroom.  This class will also qualify you for the follow up courses offered by Safe Side Tactical to enhance and develop your skills as a long range shooter.\nIn the classroom we will cover ballistic information and calculations needed for long range shooting.  At the range we will confirm your zero, perform the tall target drill to confirm scope adjustments, perform ballistic calculations and then shoot on the 600 yard range to confirm your adjustments.\nPrior to the class your rifle needs to be zeroed at 100 or 200 yards.\nRifle and ammunition should be suitable for long range shooting. DESCRIPTION:This is a beginning class for people that have little or no experience, providing them with a safe and easy way to learn how to shoot a rifle. DESCRIPTION:This course spans two days, includes NRA Basic Instructor Training, (BIT) and the NRA Rifle Instructor Course itself.\nSign Up Here\nTeam teaching of NRA Basic Rifle class by the instructor candidates. You will be provided with training guides in the BIT course for these two days of training. We will work in the class room and on the range so bring your range gear. Firearms will be provided.\nPre-requisites for this class:\nThe Instructor Candidate must complete the NRA Basic Rifle class as a student with a minimum score of 90% on the written exam. The copy of the Basic Rifle Certificate of completion will be required on Day 1 of the Rifle Instructor Course. This course is taught at GAT Guns approximately every 60 days.\nThe Instructor Candidate (IC) will be required to shoot on the morning of Day 1 on the rifle range, shooting 10 rounds each from three positions (free arm standing, bench and sitting) for a total of 30 rounds. DESCRIPTION:\nGAT Guns has a class designed for young shooters ages 8 through 14.\nThis class is taught by an NRA certified instructor. This class is split into two sections, the first portion is in the classroom and teaches firearm handling, safety, and how to deal with guns at home. The second part of the class takes place in our training range and focuses on proper shooting technique including grip, sight picture, stance, breathing, and trigger control. Students must show an acceptable level of safety and proficiency as determined by the instructor to pass this course. We require one adult per student, even in multi children homes because parents will learn how to properly assist their children on the range.\nOnce the course is successfully completed, the student will receive a decorative named certificate and a wallet sized card indicating they have taken this training at GAT GUNS.\nWhen accompanied by a parent with a valid FOID card, a child can present this card and shoot in our range from age 8. After completing this class, you will have developed a good foundation and are prepared to take our Long Range Rifle classes to be offered during the summer months.\nLong range shooting is more than just ballistic solvers and bullet drop calculations. Accurately shooting at long ranges requires a combination of a good rifle set-up, good ammunition, a stable shooting platform, and good shooter fundamentals. In this class we will cover the following:\n\nCharacteristics of a Long Range Rifle\nThe basics of Rifle Scopes\nAmmunition Selection\nBuilding a Shooting Platform\nShooting from a Bench\nShooting Prone\nTaking the Shot\n\nThis class will also take you through the basics of what to look for in purchasing a magnified scope: from focal plain to magnification choices, common types of reticle choices, as well as, MOA vs Mill adjustments and picking the correct one for your application. A major point will be made on pricing points to consider when purchasing scopes. There is a wide variety on prices and we will go into explaining why there is such drastic pricing differences between brands of scopes. We will also discuss mounting rings and mounting systems for your scopes on a variety of rifles from AR-15’s to bolt action precision long range rifles. There are many different types and options available and some are better than others.\nLet us help educate you on the complex area of magnified optics, so you can make the correct choice for you and your application.\nWe will be demonstrating both benchrest and prone positions in the class. DESCRIPTION:This class is designed for shooters who want to challenge their abilities at long ranges.  This 6-8 hour class will cover all the necessary skills for shooting out to 600 yards.\nThis class is broken up into two days:\n\nDay 1: Classroom portion at GAT Guns\nDay 2: Range portion is held at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club, Waterman, IL\n\nEach student will receive a copy of the material in the classroom.  This class will also qualify you for the follow up courses offered by Safe Side Tactical to enhance and develop your skills as a long range shooter.\nIn the classroom we will cover ballistic information and calculations needed for long range shooting.  At the range we will confirm your zero, perform the tall target drill to confirm scope adjustments, perform ballistic calculations and then shoot on the 600 yard range to confirm your adjustments.\nPrior to the class your rifle needs to be zeroed at 100 or 200 yards.\nRifle and ammunition should be suitable for long range shooting. SUMMARY:Intro to Handguns
DESCRIPTION:This is a basic course directed to people with little or no firearms experience to provide them with a fun and safe way to be introduced to handguns and shooting. Led by winning female action pistol competitor TD Roe, attendees enjoy a comfortable, low pressure, fun environment. The Introduction to Handguns and Women’s class are identical in content.\nThe minimum age is 10. Students 13 and under must register and attend with a parent/guardian; both participants must be registered. Students 14+ may attend independently.\nThe class begins with a classroom session of approximately one and a half hours.  First, we discuss safety and the legal aspects of handguns, and then the mechanical aspects of how ammunition and guns work are shown.\nNext, we cover the fundamentals of good handgun shooting, grip, stance, sight picture, and trigger control in the “dry-handling” portion of the class.  Range time runs about one and a half hours with the students firing .22 rimfire handguns to build skill and competence in an easy-to-master way.  Centerfire 9mm handguns are made available for those wishing to try bigger guns at the end of the range portion.  Students fire about 80-100 rounds of rimfire followed by a handful of centerfire.  We wrap up with a closing session in the classroom to review the lessons and answer questions.\nGuns, ammunition, and supplies will be provided by us and includes both rimfire and centerfire ammo.  From this you will be able to form some basic conclusions about not only handguns and shooting, but your own interest(s) in related recreational and personal protection areas.\nIf you have your own gun, feel free to bring it.  Please keep it unloaded and cased and let the instructors know that you have brought it.  We will start you on the trainer guns and then work with you with your own gun as you progress.  Please be sure that you transport your gun legally (with a FOID card, cased and unloaded) and that you have ammunition specific to it with you.\nWhat's included in the Class?\n\nClassroom Instruction\nEye and Ear Protection\nRange Time\nFirearms\nAmmunition\n\nWhat's needed for the Class?\n\nOptional: You may bring your own gun, unloaded and in a case.
