This beginner class is designed specifically for women with little or no firearms experience, offering a fun and safe introduction to handguns and shooting. Led by award-winning female action pistol competitor TD Roe, participants will enjoy an educational, comfortable, and low-pressure environment.
The class starts with an hour and a half of classroom instruction, covering essential safety topics and the legal aspects of handgun ownership. You’ll also learn about the mechanics of guns and ammunition. Next, we’ll delve into the fundamentals of good handgun shooting, including grip, stance, sight picture, and trigger control, in a “dry-handling” session before heading to the range.
In the second part of the class, you’ll practice on the range using .22 Rimfire handguns to build your skills and confidence. For those interested in trying larger firearms, centerfire 9mm handguns will be available at the end of the range session. You can expect to fire about 80-100 rounds of rimfire ammunition, followed by a few rounds of centerfire.
We conclude with a final classroom session to review the day’s lessons and answer any questions you may have. A Firearms Owners ID card (FOID) is not required to take this class unless you plan to bring your own gun.
